The MadMAC’s philosophy is to showcase and perpetuate amateur swing dancing, resulting in a tour and national championship for amateur dancers. We promote three amateur levels:

Amateur Novice
Non-Professional
Rising Star

These levels roughly approximate the Novice, Intermediate and Advanced dancers. We recognize a separate category for the Professional dancer, who is most likely to attend the dance event with his or her students, and who makes at least a partial career out of dance.

Because Professional dancers have a national tour and points system, sufficient opportunity for advancement and reward is available to them. However, amateur dancers, who make up the bulk of convention-goers and social dancers are often left out of the award and appreciation system. So, the Americas Classic, a national tour culminating in a national championship in Houston, Texas, offers this regional competition as a stepping-stone for amateur dancers.
